Sound Over Sight

We have been getting a lot of emails and messages from folks who like the new audio format of The Daily Frail.

Everybody wants to know why we are taking the show back to its audio-only roots.

To put it simply, audio engages your imagination. When I ask you to play an exercise with me or to play back a note you have to listen and then think about your next step.

lights out!As old DJ’s my father and I are aware of the raw power of an audio signal.Video can be great, but it can be a passive medium. You sit and watch a video file. With audio even entertainment requires your imagination to work. Listen to a bit of the old radio horror show Lights Out! for a taste of what your imagination can create with a bit of sound and suggestion.

Light’s Out!

I started The Daily Frail back in 2005 as an audio-only show. After YouTube simplified video we made the switch always intending to supplement the workshops with audio material. Now that we have 790 workshops on YouTube (wow!) we can go back to audio workshops for a bit. We are having a blast.

Give these audio episodes of The Daily Frail a shot.  If you are not sure about what I am doing, play the segment back a few times and experiment. You will learn a lot more this way than you would passively watching a video.

We will be posting video files alongside the audio workshops in the near future. We will also be bringing back our podcast, Keys to the Highway. There is a lot of cool stuff in the works.. I can’t wait!

The Daily Frail Episode 7

Today play in the key of C and sing a country tune from the fabulous 1980’s.

Lord I Hope this day is good
recorded by Don Williams and written by Dave Hanner.

C
Lord I hope this day is good

I'm feeling empty and misunderstood
 G7
I should be thankful Lord I know I should
    F G7 C
But Lord I hope this day is good

Lord have you forgotten me

I've been praying to you faithfully
G7
I'm not saying I'm a righteous man
    F G7 C
But Lord I hope you understand

Am Em F C
I don't need fortune and I don't need fame
Am Em F C
Send down the thunder Lord send down the rain
Am Em F C
But when you're planning just how it should be
G7 F G7
Plan a good day for me

Repeat #1

Am Em F C
You've been the king since the dawn of time
Am Em F C
All that I'm asking is a little less crime
Am Em F C
It might be hard for the Devil to do
G7 F G7
But it would be easy for you

Repeat #1

In the audio I mistakenly attributed this song to Don Gibson rather than Don Williams. Stuff like that happens when you are playing, singing and teaching at the same time.
