Daily Dojo

Our dojo thought for the day comes from the one and only Ed Parker.

“Traditionalists often study what is taught, not what there is to create.”

Ed Parker

Is he right? Is he wrong? Think about this while you practice today.

  1. I think he is correct because traditional is what is taut and handed down over the years

  2. Often yes, this seems to be true. For example, I was once told I could not sing Grandma’s Feather Bed at an informal bluegrass jam because “John Denver is not a bluegrass artist.” Another example is once when I was ridiculed for using C tuning in a jam session. It took me a few months before I had the guts to go back to that group. Thanks for the thought provoking quote.
